How to Lose Friends and Alienate People: A Q & A with Author Toby Young
In a world where pretentious morons and overall idiots dictate popular culture, Toby Young tells it how it is. For better or worse. His honest and self-depreciating memoir, How To Lose Friends and Alienate People chronicles the failures of his writing career for Vanity Fair as well as his attempts to infiltrate New York high society. Despite the success of the novel, Toby Young was subsequently fired as the screenwriter for the film adaptation starring Simon Pegg as Young, as well as Jeff Bridges as Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter.
His follow up memoir, The Sound of No Hands Clapping picks up where How to Lose Friends and Alienate People left off, focusing on the failures of both his screenwriting career and his attempts to "make it" as a Hollywood writer. Toby was gracious enough to allow me to pick his brain about not only his work but life in general.
